Branar Arts Flag second activity

Pupils made posters about the issues from the last activity the freeze frames which they put up around the school to spread awareness of littering on the planet.

 

On the week beginning 4/11/24 the class talked about the environment and our local environment we had done projects about the locality in History and Geography during the month of October. 

We started the ‘looking and exploring the world with Marc’ 

Activity 1: Children drew maps of their seats and where they were seated. They compared this to the locality and where they lived

Activity 2: The children loved drawing the classroom and did it in a variety of ways some were putting in the little things they enjoyed most in the classroom. 

Activity 3: Drawing from their seat to the door was great fun for them as they then went the path that they had drawn and were very happy and excited if they had forgotten elements and added them in.

Activity 4: This was really enjoyable for children as the school is a rural school and each journey was very different. They loved using colours to depict the areas and put in places of interest. They constantly added to it during the month and completed them at the start of December where we put them on display. Children from the other classes came to look at the display and the children explained the lesson they did and what they understood from it. 

Many children said it was their journey to school from their house to school and added things every day. ‘They showed the way to the school’, ‘They are colourful’, ‘To show your way home home from school’, They show direction and lakes, fields, rivers and important points of interest, ‘ It navigates our way to school.

Branar Arts Flag First task

Acorn Digital Arts Flag

Branar’s Acorn Digital Arts Flag is a whole school initiative designed to promote and reward arts engagement in schools. Branar is proud to be partnering with Acorn Life Group to make this happen each year.

Our class has been working hard to gain a flag for the school. In October  we focused on  ‘looking at the Environment with Catherine’. We did the warm up activities and then the activities during the week and completed the activities. We continued to do the role play during drama time throughout the month.

Activity 1: the children stepped forward to statements to show their awareness of the environment. Many of the children had the same opinion.

Activity 2: Pupils made freeze frames relating to the pictures and statements. They enjoyed being tapped on the shoulder to tell their thoughts and feelings

Activity 3: Response to images:in childdren’s own words

  1. Nearly all litter ends up in the ocean. 9 billion litres per year
  2. Littering can cost money
  3. The most littered item is fast food packaging 
  4. People on the move are more likely to litter than others
  5. Litter hinders the economy
  6. People between 18-34 litter the most
  7. Many animals die because of litter

Elections for Student Council

As the General Elections are getting near it is fitting that the class have an election for the first ever student council. It was a very serious time in the class with the candidates canvassing for votes. Everyone was voted for in the class and we had some very close competition. The winners have been announced and there will be a meeting of all the elected candidates in the coming days.
