SPAR National Tree Day took place on 5th October 2023, in partnership with The Tree Council of Ireland. This year’s campaign, themed “Nuts about Nature”- “Fiáin chun Dúlra”, encouraged children, parents and teachers to connect directly with nature by planting one of the 2,000 Native Irish Hazel tree saplings available FREE to primary schools on www.treeday.ie.

On the 5th of October we recieved an Oak Tree as it was such a popular initative that the Hazel trees were no longer available. The Men’s Shed in Athboy dug a hole for us and prepared the ground for the oak tree. 

On the 6th of October Mr. Mc Cann and the 6th class students planted the tree in the front garden of the school. We hope that in years to come 6th class and all the other children and parents will think about how the tree has grown and their knowledge and thirst for learning has too.
